The definition of hospitality is the warm, friendly and generous care given to guests, visitors or strangers. Making people feel safe, comfortable and valued.

I confess, I am on TikTok, WAY more than I should be. I fall down that rabbit hole pretty quickly it seems. Lately, I have been seeing many creators commenting on a particular couple who make videos about their guest house. The couple take us into their guest house after a guest checkout and have expectations that are beyond reasonable. The TV remote is moved. The blankets were used. They left food in refrigerator. The blind was broken. These things happen and as a host we should be able to just move on. What doesn't sit right with a lot of folks (me included) is the fact that this couple publicly shames their guests on their TikTok account. Not exactly what I would consider hospitality. I, myself, filmed a TikTok series last winter about resetting the guest houses so I get the concept of showing how guests leave a place. Some leave it better than they found it and some leave it in not so great shape. But that is the nature of the business. I am forever grateful for ALL of my guests, whether they followed the house rules or not. Without the guests what a boring life this would be!
